Diagram of Royal train
This is a drawing of the Royal Train which was to take the Royal Party from Euston Station in London, to Holyhead, for their connection to the Royal Yacht, leaving for Belfast Port, on 21 June 1921.
The diagram represents fully the four Carriages making up the Royal Train and set aside for the Royal Party’s use including a Dining Car, Two Saloon Carriages and a Brake Van.
It appears that the Dining Saloon had two Dining compartments, one to seat 8 persons and the other 12. This First Saloon Carriage had both a Kitchen and a preparation space for a Butler.
Between the Dining Saloon and the next Saloon carriage there is referenced “4 feet to King’s Doorway”. This is presumably the access point where the Train would have received the King and Queen when entering the Royal Train at Euston Station.
The second Saloon has the main body of the Saloon set out with Tables, Chairs and Settees.
It is indicated that there was a space set aside, within, for two Typists. It is also indicated that Equerries would be travelling within this Saloon car.
The third Saloon Carriage had two separate seating Areas, a Kitchen, Lavatory and a large meeting table set out with a number of Chairs. The Description below the third Saloon Carriage indicates these facilities would be used by “Railway Officers”.
