Textile Handkerchief decorated to commemorate the Opening of Parliament on 22nd June 1921.
This would have been a humble, readily affordable Commemorative object that could have been purchased by members of the Public to commemorate the occasion of the Opening of Parliament.
The Handkerchief is made of cloth with Stitching along each edge.
The Handkerchief is a rather humble souvenir of the Opening of Parliament by King George V at City Hall in Belfast on June 22nd 1921.
The Handkerchief has a red Print printed upon one side of the Handkerchief.
The design incorporates Two Flags: that of Ulster, with the Red Hand in outline only, and with dripping blood, and one with the Union Flag depicted, somewhat uncharacteristically, in single colour print.
At the top of the Handkerchief is a depiction of the King entitled “His Majesty King George V”
Centrally placed, in the design, is the Legend:
“Souvenir of the Opening of The Ulster Parliament June 22nd 1921”
Below that Legend is another representation of another of the major figures that day - James Craig, who was installed as Northern Ireland’s first Prime Minister. He is entitled “Lt Col Sir James Craig Bart. D. L. MP”
