Letter from Col. Crawford congratulating Sir Edward Carson on a recent Honour from the King
'I write to congratulate you on the honour His Majesty has conferred upon you.
I know how essential it is for your physical welfare that you should leave the active arena of politics. Yet it is with a sore, sore heart that I am called upon to say an "official" goodbye to my "Old Political Leader".
There is only one man that I have implicitly trusted and whose advice I have always taken without question during the three or four years of extreme political stress Ulster passed through prior to the war; that man is yourself.
Though I bid you goodbye as my Political Leader I shall always have that love and devotion for you that a son has for his father. I look upon the confidence, trust and friendship you have reposed in me as the greatest privilege God Almighty has permitted me to enjoy during my lifetime.
I shall ever hold these sentiments towards you while you live and revere your memory when in this sphere your work is completed.
With deep affection.'
