Metal Handcuffs of the period as used in Crumlin Road Gaol.
These are currently on loan from Trevor McIntyre.
They are a family piece handed down to Trevor by his father Hugh McIntyre, who was a Gaoler at Crumlin Road Gaol. Originally from Londonderry, Hugh joined the Northern Ireland Prison Service in 1922, after serving in the Army. Hugh spent most of his career in Crumlin Road Jail, rising to the position of Chief Prison Officer. The Handcuffs are of the 1921 period, and were retained by Hugh upon replacement by more modern restraints, for use at the Jail, saving them for posterity.
