A Contemporary Army Reserve Call Out Poster 1921
The Poster sets out..
CALLING OUT
of the Whole
ARMY RESERVE
and the militia (including the
supplementary Reserve)…
It is thought that this Poster is of the type shown to Irish Delegates to The Treaty talks in December 1921 as part of the pressure exerted upon them to accept the Offer on the table at the Talks, of partial Independence.
It is documented that Churchill made various threats, in the event of a breakdown, in Talks, to swamp Ireland with additional numbers of Troops and to bring a no holds barred conflict to bring the Country to submission.
It is interesting to note that the original print would have had the Royal Crest at the top above Calling Out - this has been removed from this example.
The Posters, whilst used in the discussions as a bargaining tool, were never deployed Publicly for Display, as, ultimately, the Talks succeeded in reaching Agreement leading to the Anglo Irish Treaty of December 6th 1921.
